Common questions

How much does it cost to spay a cat in Charlotte?

At the nonprofits that publish prices, a cat spay is $85 at both Stand For Animals and the Humane Society of Charlotte (cat neuter $65 and $75). It is free through Charlotte-Mecklenburg Animal Care & Control if you live in Mecklenburg County and are at or below 200% of the Federal Poverty Level or on government benefits, but waits are long. Prices verified October 21, 2026.

Is there free vet care for low-income people in Charlotte?

Free services are limited: income-qualified spay/neuter and a monthly free rabies drive-thru from Animal Care & Control. For sick-pet care, ask the Humane Society of Charlotte's Pet Help Center about its voucher program and Stand For Animals about its Medical Assistance Fund. National grants are listed in our pet financial assistance guide.

Which Charlotte emergency vets offer payment plans?

None of the three 24/7 hospitals we checked advertise in-house payment plans, but CARE, Carolina Veterinary Specialists and VEG all say they accept CareCredit and Scratch (Scratchpay) financing, which require an application and approval.

Where can I get a cheap rabies shot in Charlotte?

Free at the Animal Care & Control drive-thru clinic (Mecklenburg residents, 1-year vaccine, next dates Nov 14 and Dec 12, 2026). Otherwise $20 at Stand For Animals or the Humane Society of Charlotte, plus the exam or visit fee where required.

Is there a vet school hospital near Charlotte?

The nearest is NC State Veterinary Hospital in Raleigh, which runs a 24/7 small-animal emergency service. It is not in the Charlotte area.
